Dana DeArmond isn’t kidding when she says she is the Internet’s girlfriend. I can’t decide whether I want to throw up on my shoes or sprout wings and fly… Jiz Lee, Courtney Trouble and I are running past the front entrance of the Palms Hotel and Casino, exactly three minutes late for the red carpet and the excitement is palpable. Tonight is such a big night and we have spent the last two hours gearing up for our shining moment. I’m wearing a sculptural black strapless mini dress and 6 inch heels, Jiz is in pinstripe pants and chaps and Courtney is looking fierce in a black striped dress with a gold bolero jacket and perfect make-up. And we match. Black and gold, all. Black because we are artists and gold because we are fucking stars. And yes, it’s worth cussing about because life at this moment is very, very good.
We make it to the line up inside a side room at The Palms and breathe a deep sigh of relief. In line is April Flores, looking outrageous in a pink latex confection. She hands me a bottle of snapple mixed with vodka and bless her, I take a swig to soothe my nerves. We made it – in more ways than one; to the venue, to the AVNs and to points in our careers that we each never fully allowed ourselves to dream of. When I did my first scene five years ago, I was just exploring a side of my sexuality and identity that was performative. I had no idea if people would like it. When Courtney started, she just wanted to make authentic and hot queer porn. And Jiz? Well she is just a badass, I guess we all are, we all have been and being here feels like a surreal moment of being cognizant of that.
In line, we are surrounded by other badasses. Joanna Angel and the Burning Angel crew are right behind us looking tattooed, fierce and sexy. Jenna Haze passes us in line and Belladonna and Bobbi Starr soon do the same. Up ahead is the press junket, a long line of camera flashbulbs and correspondents with microphones firing questions. We walk and pose, walk and pose and Jiz and Courtney flank me, two of the sexiest “shortys” I have ever had the pleasure of posing next to. This year the red carpet is running much more smoothly than years past, no one is fighting, a few attitudes are thrown around but hey, this is porn after all and attitudes often inform conceptualizations of sex appeal.
In addition to the quick walk, the lovely set-up and the different location, this year the AVNs have added a “Twitter Pit,” a group of Twitterers brought together for the sole purpose of tweeting about the event and hopefully getting it to trend on Twitter. In the pit are some of our queer porn loving buddies and high on the energy of the red carpet, we decide to pull a little stunt. Happy New Year’s Eve! Can you believe we are back at December 31st again? Crazy, right? It seems like 2009 flew by here at HM4Her, what with all the awesome changes and exciting additions we’ve had since January. This year brought us an amazing influx of movies, including some of the hottest queer flicks around, as well as some of the best porno parodies we have ever seen and a whole armload of classics that are making their video-on-demand debut!
2009 welcomed our newest team member, the fabulous FrzKey, on board, as well as our awesome behind-the-scenes affiliate managers, Josh and Jessica. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to some of our friends, including HotMoviesForHer creator, Venus Vegas. While we are sad that we no longer get to work with such an awesome lady, we are super excited that she is still in the industry, working with Stockroom.com, and we see her online all the time.

Last week we celebrated the nominations for 2010’s Oscars of porn, the AVN Awards. Since then, we’ve been all bouncy and excited for the fine folks that made the list this year, and apparently we are not the only ones. People have been blogging up a storm since the announcement, including the nominees themselves. So, here’s a little insider scoop of the AVN nominations – straight from the horse’s mouth!
Jiz Lee wrote up a delightfully thanks-filled piece about both her nomination for “Best New Web Starlet” and Pink and White’s “Best Video Feature” for Champion: Love Hurts and even included us on the list! *Blush!*
If an explicit film with a plot about a female fighter who faces homophobia/gender discrimination as a major plot-line can make it into the running of what many call “The Oscars” of adult movies — add it it that the majority of the cast and crew are queer/trans & gender-non-conforming/people of color, and that it was produced with less than half the budget of the other videos in this category — then Holy Shit that’s better than Hollywood….
…As a genderqueer I never expected to be listed as a “starlet”. I mean, I’m SO very different than the other new web stars on AVN’s nominations list. Like, I’m the only one packing! But I’ll take this as an opportunity to open any doors in gender and sexuality — whether it’s a cisgender woman who wishes she didn’t have to shave her legs/armpits/lovely asshole to be sexy, or whether it’s a trans or gender-variant perv who thinks there may be a chance at stardom in the mainstream. There is opportunity out there for queer visibility and expanding acceptance at who we are and how we love.

And the votes are in! The 2010 AVN Award nominees have been announced, and this year the picks are better than ever. Basically the Oscars of porn, the AVN Awards honor the best and brightest of porno movie royalty. So, yeah, they are a big freaking deal. This year we are extra excited because so many of our favorite performers are on the list! We are super happy for them and know they all completely deserve the nominations. While many of the folks nominated have had the pleasure of making the list in previous years, I want to make sure to give a special shout out to some HM4Her crushes that are celebrating their first AVN Award nominations this year. Especially the San Francisco queers that are breaking through the mainstream barriers of porn and bringing their insanely sexy gender/sexuality bending action to the masses. This year is the first that AVN is recognizing the work they do as being on par with some of the most well known names in mainstream porn.

I remember that last year we were excited when queer performer Syd Blakovich walked the AVN red carpet as Madison Young’s date, and now look at us – cheering on these awesome queers for their own nominations! And surprisingly, it’s not for a queer category either. Jiz is up for Best New Web Starlet, Dylan for Best Solo Sex Scene, and Pink and White for their Best Video Feature, “Champion,” which was shot with a mostly queer/trans/gender non-conforming/people of color cast and crew and with a way smaller budget than any other movie in the nomination category. Hot, right? So, congrats to these rad pervs! Who cares who wins… the nod is freaking awesome.

When I really like something, I’m the kind of person that decides that it’s my favorite thing ever and takes any opportunity to talk it up. This is true when it comes to porn stars as well. I will find a star I like and blog about them incessantly, only switching gears when I find someone new to obsess over. For better or worse, that’s just how I roll. A bunch of weeks back, I was watching the premiere of Conan O’ Brien taking over The Tonight Show, when all of a sudden Conan was hanging out in the middle of the Vivid Entertainment Group’s offices. What the hell? Apparently Conan was just paying a visit to his new neighbors, who reside right across the street from his Tonight Show set.

In an industry full of blonde chicks with big tits and little to say, Dana Dearmond definitely stands out. While I was checking out new studios, I saw this solo flick starring the lovely Ms. Dearmond and couldn’t pass it by.
First up, a complaint. This movie is 22 minutes long and six minutes in she’s still wearing her gold lame panties and bouncing her ass up and down… I like a little build-up, but I seriously recommend you skip two scene two if you don’t want to watch 8 minutes of porno foreplay.
Fortunately, in the next 14 minutes we get to know the star pretty well. She plays with her shaved pussy before finger banging herself for your viewing pleasure. I would say probably about half the mail that porn stars get is people asking them how to break into porn. While some stars never respond to their fans’ questions, others go above and beyond, and make a whole movie about it! That’s what director/star Dana DeArmond did to make this insanely long Vivid flick. DeArmond rocked both sides of the camera after choosing a few very special pen pals come over to the porno dark side and perform in her movie. Not only did Dana DeArmond fly around the country to meet these porno wannabes, she brought them out to LA to do their very first scenes! Among the bunch that are interviewed and followed through the experience only a few actually do the deed and make it to fucking on film. These include Andy San Dimas, Casper Vice, Apple McCall and Johnny Utah (who gets to fuck Dana in his scene).
What I loved most about this movie, besides all the interviews and giggliness, was that it was really real and you could tell that it was the newbies’ first times in porn. It felt like really high quality amateur porn, but way better because there was at least one pro in each scene. Out of the whole movie, my favorite first-timer was Andy San Dimas. Not only did she rock the scene like an old hand, but she was really funny and personable in the interviews. While most people might not care what the stars have to say, I definitely do and rate their likeability in the grand total of how hot I think they are. I also really liked Johnny Utah. He was adorably nervous and even had a difficult time getting hard. But alls well that ended well and he finally crossed that finish line, with thick streams of cum running down Dana’s smiling face.

Over here at HM4Her, we are busy gals.
