We here at HMFH love our silicone! If you take a look at our toys reviews and even some of the past sex tips, we always seem to be praising silicone toys. Yes, it’s the best sex toy material ever, but we never really say why that is. So I’m taking this opportunity to let y’all know why we love this magic material with a list of the top five reasons why silicone rocks our worlds!

1. Silicone is Phthalate-free.

Phthalates (pronounced THAL-ates) are chemicals that are used to soften plastics. They are found in variety of everyday products, including sex toys. But recent studies are showing that phthalates can have adverse health affects on the body, including organ damage, hormone changes, and lowered sperm count, to name a few. They have also been linked to being probable human carcinogens. Silicone doesn’t have any! Aside from having questionable health issues, phthalates can make a sex toy come out of the package smelling grossly plastic or perfumed or be covered in a greasy film. Ew. Which brings us to our next reason…

2. Silicone is tasteless, odorless and hypoallergenic.

Yep, when a silicone toy comes of out the box, there is no sickly sweet perfume stink or weird plasticy taste (which as I said above is this Phthalates fault), just a well-made toy ready for some fun. I don’t know about anyone else, but I know I’m not really down with my sex toys getting me all nostalgic by smelling like a My Little Pony from the ’80s (I know you know what I’m talking about). Anyway, silicone is prefect for anyone that has rubber or vinyl allergies, or is easily irritated by scented products.

3. Silicone transfers vibrations extremely well.

Whether you have a silicone dildo with a special hole that is made to fit the tiniest bullet vibe, a vibe pressed to the base of a regular dildo, or a straight up silicone vibrator, this moan inducing material takes the buzz and runs with it – from tip of the top to way down low on the shaft. Silicone also quickly warms up to and stays at body temperature to keep your hot little bits nice and toasty.

4. Silicone is sturdy, pliable and nearly indestructible.

Having a silicone toy is like owning a Toyota – I know, super unsexy comparison, but it’s just true, if you take good care and maintenance of your toy, it can last forever (or at least 350,000 miles, which is nothing to sneeze at). Just keep your toy away from silicone lubes and be careful not to nick or scratch it and you are good to keep playing for years to come! While some silicone toys are softer or harder than others, they are all sturdy, yet flexible, enough for even the roughest of action. And since silicone toys come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors, you’ll be ready to test out a new toy before your old toy is ever ready for the trash.

5. Silicone is easy to clean and disinfect.

Not only can you clean silicone toys quick and easy with the standard soap and water, silicone toys can be boiled (for 3-10 mins) to disinfect them, and run through the dishwasher (top shelf, no soap)! Easy peasy! Being able to totally disinfect a toy means being able to safely share a toy with no condom needed, as well as cleaner toys for you. Hot!

Sure silicone has it’s downsides – it’s more expensive and melts if it touches silicone lube or other silicone toys – but the good outweighs the bad by far and we are more than happy to live with those odds.
