Shawn (aka Syd Blakovich) is a hot genderqueer who’s been working in adult since 2005. When she’s not busy being super hot and smart, Shawn dedicates most of her time training to fight and working for Pink and White Productions, internationally acclaimed pioneers of independent, adult, queer cinema and four time winners of Feminist Porn Awards. She is also one of the most notorious figures in the adult submission wrestling world and could definitely beat me in arm wrestling.

1. How (and when) did you get started in the industry?
My focus of my undergraduate degree was in fine art with a thesis exploring the intersections of fine art photography and pornography. After I graduated, I moved up to SF and started interning at On Our Backs Magazine and working for Good Vibrations. I met Shine working at Good Vibes shortly before she started Pink and White Productions. I came on board to help with marketing and as talent for her first movie The Crash Pad in 2005. I also started working for Kink.com’s wrestling site UltimateSurrender.com the same year.

2. If you weren’t in the adult industry, what would you be doing?
I most likely would be working in some sort of non-profit, which is what I do part time now. I also would probably be doing everything else I already am doing: performance art, martial arts, youth organizing, and managing my relationships (this is actually a full time job;). Although when I was in college, I was studying chemistry/pre-med to become a plastic surgeon. Can you imagine what would have happened if I hadn’t gone to an all women’s liberal arts school?

3. What’s the best thing you’ve learned or best advice you’ve received from industry?
Make a list of things you “will do”, “won’t do”, and “aren’t sure” about. Only do what’s in the “will do” and know that these things can change.

4. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened while filming?
Funny in retrospect however slightly unnerving while it happened, we lost a glass butt plug up Jiz Lee’s ass during a threeway. Eventually we got it out, but the lesson learned was that butt plugs need bases that are much bigger than the width of the toy’s body.

5. What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in industry?
Hmm, I think there are a lot of issues surrounding accessibility and entitlement regarding adult performers. There is this weird schism in reality that I think people experience when it comes to ideas of entertainment and media. When your job involves using your body for entertainment, I think people have a hard time understanding that the performance is the product not you. I have seen some really off color behavior by individuals interacting with adult performers which is completely disrespectful.

6. What did you do today?
Oh man, after issuing several apologies for my behavior the previous evening I made vegan chocolate pancakes, went to work (I am a creative director of marketing by day), from which I then will go to the gym for 3 hours and then have a date with my wifey. I am pretty sure 90% of my day will be devoted to processing because that’s what us queers do. P4P if you know what I mean and I am running up quite a bill for processing.

7. What would you rather have done today?
Group sex, naps, sushi and full body massages.

8. If you could do a movie with anyone (living or brought back from the dead) who would it be?
The demon Mara. I fucking love vicious beautiful women and she is definitely the epitomy of them all.

9. Who is your favorite adult performer?
I adore performers like Sharon Mitchell, Nina Hartley, Sasha Grey, Belladonna and more who integrate their beauty and brains in their careers. I must say that I have a special place in my heart for everyone I have worked with and all the CrashPadSeries.com residents.

10. You’ve got 20 bucks left to your name; what would you do with it?
Buy cupcakes and eat them with my friends at Dolores Park in the sunshine.

11. If you were president, what’s the first thing you’d change?
The Global Gag Rule… oh wait Obama just did that.

12. What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?
Uh, I do stupid things everyday and try to pass them off as charming. I think it works for me. Perhaps if I had more dignity, I might be embarrassed, but I usually find them personally amusing and laugh at myself. If you watch the behind the scenes on most of movies I am in, you’ll probably see me do something embarrassing. I am a big spaz.

13. Which is your favorite project you’ve worked on?
CHAMPION!!! It is the marriage of my two biggest passions: fighting and fucking.

14. If you could have one superpower what would it be?
Time managment skillz.

15. Meat or veggie?
Carnivore/Vagitarian…. I love meat especially when it’s attached to a vegan muahaha.

16. What is your favorite book?
Anything by Pema Chodron

17. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Flakiness.

18. What is your best piece of sex advice for women?
Masturbate more often by yourself, with friends and lovers and maybe even on camera.

19. What is your favorite adult movie?
Aside from Champion of course, I love the classics. Behind the Green Door, Devil in Miss Jones, Outlaw Ladies… the golden era of film is where it is at.

20. Tell me one thing you’ve never told anyone else.
I have the humor of a 9 year old and think poop jokes are hilarious. I also love bacon, especially euro style and I am an emo-asshole with heart of gold (and so in to romance it hurts). I also love run on sentences.
