Today is the 20th Anniversary of World AIDS Day, the international day of awareness that reminds us that AIDS is still affecting millions and millions of people worldwide. People all over the globe are hosting various events today that not only pay respect to the hordes of people who died from the disease and are currently living with HIV/AIDS, but promote AIDS awareness and safe sex awareness.
Just think, when this annual event began, Reagan was still in office and the world was just starting to really figure out what they were faced with. We’ve gone through twenty years of panic, research, hope, drugs, breakthroughs, roadblocks, celebrities dying, children dying, average Joes dying, grassroots organizations, wasting, losing a huge part of a generation, care, conviction, awareness, learning, teaching, helping each other and doing our parts to help eradicate this disease. The only real consistency of that whole twenty years is that ignorance is no help to anyone. Check out worldaidsday.org for more info and see find events and awareness campaigns near you.
