Starting off as an erotica writer, Tainton explored her sexuality and turned to the silver screen, shooting scenes for her own production company. 1. How (and when) did you get started in the industry?
I almost unknowingly began working in “the industry” just under four years ago. I was living in Cairns, Australia after leaving my position as the technical writer for a Midwestern engineering firm and spending a year traveling around the South Pacific intending to jump head-first into travel writing and photography and fulfill my dream of being a freelance writer. I was making myself work daily on a travel memoir when I realized I needed some form of writing to do just for fun to keep the creative juices flowing. When I tried to think of the most completely indulgent and terribly fun kind of writing I could enjoy, I thought of writing erotica. What could possibly come more naturally to a sexually active adult writer? And my recent travel as a single woman included so many erotic tales to start with!
When I moved back to the States, I’d done all the research, started sending off short stories to major publications offline and on, and started my own personal website, TaraTainton.com, as a sort of portfolio where editors or fans of my writing could get to know me, see my writing and growing list of publication credits in sex writing, and see what I was up to. Long story shorter… opening myself up to the adult business, the more open-minded readers and writers of erotica, and my own interests and sexual exploration in meeting new people, sharing my experiences and welcoming discussion via my personal blog, and of course, writing and publishing the erotic stories and articles themselves, had a completely unexpected and very positive impact on my own self-image, self-confidence, and comfort with the entire industry and sex itself.
I ventured to share amateur photos of myself to delight my fans, challenge myself, and liven up my website, which led to recording and sharing audio erotica with my fans, which led to filming my first homemade adult video to share. I had no idea I’d be so comfortable sharing my nude self and personality on camera in addition to always feeling so comfortable sharing my honest thoughts, opinions, and sexuality.
All my fun in the adult business and the incredible community of men and women who work, play, and indulge in the products of it nurtured my discovering so much more about myself and my desire to encourage others to explore, play, and self-discover as much as I’ve enjoyed and benefited from. I opened TarasNaughtyShop.com, found a very welcoming audience for my amateur adult video on various clips and video sites and with major amateur adult film studios in the business, and founded my own adult studio, Tara Tainton XXX, just recently. I hope to invite amateurs and newcomers in the adult business or just those looking to further express themselves and explore sexually to add to my studio’s video offerings very soon, and I’m looking forward to catering to female viewers and fans of erotica with more women-focused movie offerings. We women have our own take on adult video and enjoyable porn viewing that is undeniably unique and can vary greatly from the majority of porn available to us.
2. If you weren’t in the adult industry, what would you be doing?
Probably writing travel stories and articles constructed to meet the tight guidelines and requirements of major publishers and a somewhat conservative industry and wishing I could “play” in writing much more.
3. What is the best thing you have learned or best advice you have received from industry.
You know, I haven’t received any advice, interestingly enough. But I have received lots of encouragement from fans, friends, business associates, other porn producers, and even family. They’re all there to remind me that being myself and doing what I genuinely enjoy delivers the very best writing, viewing, etc. It’s been really wonderful to find that despite what we, especially as women, hear from the mainstream media, see in the mainstream movies, etc., that people the world over really respect, search for, and greatly appreciate people just being our natural selves… looking natural, acting natural, and being genuine. That’s a huge confidence boost.
4. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened while filming?
I was getting my first facial – yes, my actual first blowjob facial! – on camera while kneeling on the kitchen floor and thought I knew what to expect. I smiled big and held my mouth open and tongue out as I’d scene it done on countless other porn videos, but there was no one there to warn me that you’re supposed to keep your eyes closed. I got cum right in my eye, cried out in surprised, had to rush to the sink to wash up as it started stinging, and my eyes were red and puffy for days!
5. What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in industry?
That we’re all sex-crazed or just “doin’ it for the money” or we’re bimbos with no brains behind the courage to be nude on camera or however we choose to bare ourselves in this industry. In actuality, we’re all regular people, real women with real lives and goals, families and friends, the same insecurities or issues to work through, and we’re just doing what comes naturally to us, that we actually feel very comfortable doing or sharing, and we really hope that the work we do is truly enjoyable for others.
6. What did you do today?
I slept in, shared new video for my fans on my sites, worked a few hours on my laptop and caught up with business contacts, enjoyed playing with my New Zealand lover on film in our own bedroom, and am looking forward to a quiet night cuddling on the couch and watching movies with my lover and our Siamese cat.
7. What would you rather have done today?
Stepped out of the house to enjoy the warm Fall weather of Las Vegas and take a short car trip to explore some new part of our desert surroundings… and find a discrete place to play with my lover.
8. If you could do a movie with anyone (living or brought back from the dead) who would it be?
Robert Downey Jr. There’s something about his physical appearance and bad boy reputation that makes me want to get to know the real man behind the movie characters and… I’d jump him in a heartbeat!
9. Who is your favorite adult performer?
Jesse Jane. Ever since being introduced to her and her very unique sexual style and gusto in Pirates, I (and my lover) have been huge fans of hers. In interviews, she tells how she truly enjoys sex and interacting with her partners on screen. And in watching her in films, she really puts it all out there. She jumps right in, seems to do whatever naturally comes to mind, and becomes a wild woman. She’s incredible.
10. You’ve got 20 bucks left to your name; what would you do with it?
Use it for some cheap mode of transportation and get out of town to see something, anything and anywhere, I haven’t experienced before.
11. If you were president, what’s the first thing you’d change?
I wish I could find a way to secure women’s right to choose for all time without any later officials being able to endanger our personal rights and freedoms so unjustly.
12. What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?
Gotten snippy with my partner on film. We were shooting homemade video for a popular producer of amateur porn for the first time and believed a very professional editing job would be done with the raw video we submitted and sold to them. The producer excitedly gave us copies of the finished DVD and when we played it at home, we were shocked to realize he hadn’t edited anything out. There I was… being bitchy with my partner and looking like a lunatic. But I guess getting the cum in the eye later in the scene made up for it!
13. Which is your favorite project you’ve worked on?
Creating and designing my own Tara Tainton XXX DVDs. I’m a big geek and I love all the technical details and having to learn new things to achieve what I have in mind. Having a fully packaged and professional DVD in hand that you are not only featured on but have designed and made happen yourself is very surreal. I’m very proud of what I do now, how far I’ve come, and how I’ll be able to create so much fun and personal growth in opportunities for other men and women as my studio grows.
14. If you could have 1 superpower what would it be?
Teleportation. I really love to travel, and the cost of a flight itself seems to be the first to prevent me from going anywhere I dream of.
15. Meat or veggie?
Definitely meat! How could I be convinced to live without sushi??
16. What is your favorite book?
The Power of Now by Ekhart Tolle. I’m a workaholic who forgets to take time to play or enjoy the present moment and what I’ve already accomplished. The Power of Now pointed out my overactive mind to me and reminds me to sit still often, take better care of my body, and really enjoy those around me.
17. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Dishonesty… those that are dishonest with others and/or dishonest with themselves. I’ve always been a big truth-teller and very open about what I’m thinking, need, or want. I find that allows me to live so much more peacefully, happily, and contentedly than I find some are able to. Most of the world’s or relationship problems can be solved by everyone just taking a time out and being honest about what they want and need.
18. What is your best piece of sex advice for women?
Be yourself above all else! It doesn’t matter what a partner wants or requests or how you feel about your body or abilities, etc. If you’re true to yourself, enjoy sex as you love it, try new things at your own pace, and stick to your own comfort zone, you will enjoy such a happy, healthy sex life. And never, EVER fake an orgasm! Be willing to put in a little work (or make your partner do the same) to fully enjoy what sex has to offer.
19. What is your favorite adult movie?
Pirates. It’s hilarious! I had never before come across an adult movie that had as much thought put into it and a bit of a plot. The actors were well chosen for the characters and I have recommended that movie to every adult I know. Those who’ve never seen or never liked porn, really enjoy Pirates and all the great sex in it. J I can’t wait to see the sequel!
20. Tell me one thing you’ve never told anyone else.
